Sigrid Thornton brings a story to life for Victorian children who are blind or have low vision
Sigrid Thornton, our Feelix Library Ambassador, has captivated our young clients at many events.
"In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf." So begins Eric Carle's classic, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
For more than 40 years children across the world have been enjoying the journey of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". But how would you enjoy this classic tale if you were one of the hundreds of children in Victoria who are blind or have low vision?
Thanks to Vision Australia's Feelix Library the magical world of this children's book will be bought to life for more than 50 young Victorian children who are blind or have low vision.
Our patron Sigrid Thornton will read this enchanting story to children who are blind or have low vision aged 0-6 years old at a special morning tea on 26 March 2010.
After story time, the children and their families will act out of the story in the brand new Feelix Library - curling up on a leaf, tasting different foods, crawling into a cocoon and becoming a butterfly.
This unique event will mark the official opening of Vision Australia's Feelix Library at our Kooyong centre.
What is the Feelix Library?
Vision Australia has a unique braille book library developed specifically for children who are blind or have low vision aged from birth to six.
The library, known as "Feelix", makes picture books accessible for the first time to children so that they can have fun with the same stories as their friends.
Each book has an accompanying tactile kit to help bring the story to life.
